How Does Hydro Jetting Work?

Hydro jetting—sometimes just called jetting—is a drain cleaning method that uses a high temperature hydro jet. The sheer force of the water will help clear out any clogs or obstructions in the pipe. It’s even enough to blast away organic sludge that has been forming on the walls of the pipe.

The jet comes out of a small hose with a sprayer head at the end of it. The sprayer shoots at multiple angle, so it won’t matter exactly how the hose is fed into the pipe. Once inside the pipe, it will remove debris, biological waste, limescale, and more.

At Kennihan Plumbing & Heating, Inc., we use HotJet USA as our preferred brand of hydro jet.

Hydro Jetting is One of the Best Drain Cleaning Methods

While there are certainty other methods of clearing out a clogged line, hydro jetting is one of the best. Part of that reason is because hydro jetting is the only method that actually cleans the pipe, doing more than just simply clearing the clog.

Drain snaking is an effective method for clearing a clog, but it can’t always reach every area of the pipe. The size of the auger at the end of the drain snake will determine just how much of the clog actually gets cleared away. There could very well be parts of the clog left, and that can contribute to another clog in the future.

The most problematic form of drain cleaning comes from the use of chemicals that are not approved by professional plumbers. You may have some of them under your kitchen sink. Although they are labeled "drain cleaners," the chemicals inside these cleaners are often caustic and will eat away at the very pipes they aim to clean.
